Short-Term and Long-Term Volunteering in Africa

It’s an experience

Africulture Tanzania is a Tanzanian Foundation, also registered in Finland, arranging training, school teaching, education and projects in towns of Pangani and villages in Tanzania. Africulture gives you an experience of a lifetime.

Volunteer your skills and yourself – work with local people and experience another culture like never before. As a volunteer with Africulture you are making an important contribution through working together with the local community and sharing in achieving its goals. You will experience a new culture, share your own, and get to know a warmly welcoming people. You will gain perspectives and insight into a different culture and likewise into your own. Africulture is an exciting and personally inspiring experience. By volunteering with Africulture you will develop and share memories that will live in your heart forever.With Africulture, you can enjoy the flexibility of choosing programs from one to three months long in the beautiful country of Tanzania on the east coast of Africa.

Short-term Volunteering
You can also volunteer as a tourist. Volunteer opportunities in Africa are really becoming more interesting with the rise of Voluntourism. Many tourists who are visiting Africa now wish to spend some of their vacation in a more enriching way: by helping local communities or being involved in conservation efforts. This article lists organizations offering short-term programs.

Volunteer Requirements
This project requires volunteers with knowledge and/or experience of ecotourism, hospitality, conservation, and English language teaching.

Research Volunteer
This private nature reserve invites proposals for research and study. Among the areas for potential research are Crolls in the Maziwe Island, which you can see clear in the Indian Ocean. We also have colubuss monkey and their interactions with humans. One trip to the national park is included.

Regeneration Project
Volunteers are needed to help local people become more skilled and independent. Volunteers can help to train local residents in computer literacy, teach them English, or get involved in a number of the environmental programs. Pangani  is  a small town but has lots of history as you see in real life. Pangani nowadays seems like the best place to be in peace and enjoy the African sunshine and sunrise everyday.

Volunteer Teachers
This project is seeking enthusiastic and motivated individuals to work as volunteer teachers. It requires an excellent command of the English language. Generally we would like them to participate in different sports activities e.g. football, netball, cricket and anything interesting  a volunteer wishes to teach the kids. Different drawings especially from their feelings and useful for their level. Volunteers can also teach the kids other drawings and sketches.

Adult Teaching: The ccm Community in Pangani is open to anybody and is free of charge to anyone. It is from age 7 to age 35. The students learn English at Gombero school. Volunteers are teaching adults.        

The School
The school is 30 minutes  from the  volunteer house. At Kikokwe Primary School, across the River in Bweni, most subjects are taught in Kiswahili and our volunteers can teach English, Sports, Music and Art. It is important to be open to different cultures and to the establishment of relationships with the welcoming people of the Pangani community.

What This Project Offers
This project offers opportunities for interested people from different institutions and countries to experience tropical agriculture. In exchange for your work the project offers free cultural exchanges and promises lots of fun with Local Mama who will show you the real life in the village. You will enjoy the experience a lot!

Help Children
Help children from disadvantaged backgrounds. Volunteers are needed for day care  work, medical work, administrative duties, and teaching. There are also research opportunities in fields such as  women studies and medicine. The Pangani village has one hospital, which is the only one and needs help such as students who are looking for practical experience.

Interested in Becoming an Issue Editor? This project is looking for writers and editors interested in working for the community . This is a wonderful opportunity to work and experience rural Africa. The Pangani people have lots of plans but they need your help. When you are there, you will see what you are going to give to the locals in order for them to learn and be able to move forward.

           
Preservation Workshop
Help save some of Africa's architectural heritage. This project provides hands-on training in building conservation skills and gives volunteers the opportunity to assist in the completion of preservation projects. No experience is necessary.           

                       
Local Community Support
This project offers volunteer placements in an group, a women's centre and a school. Volunteers are involved
in a number of tasks including teaching, building, painting and creating websites etc. There is no cost to volunteer. A room with all meals in the nearby hostel.

English Speaking Volunteers
This project is looking for volunteers who speak English as their first language. No experience is necessary but teaching skills are a plus. In return for your time the project will provide free accomodation and fantastic hospitality.

Full-Time Teachers
This project seeks professional teachers to teach English grammar, writing, and English conversation to the students. The local people speak Swahili and some of them know a little English.

Volunteer at Children’s Home
Volunteers are invited to share their time or expertise with the children. There are opportunites in childcare, healthcare, teaching, administration, fundraising, building/carpentry, and many other areas.  

Volunteer in Schools
The role of the volunteer is to facilitate programmes that improve the education of the children at school. Your imagination is the limit. Volunteers are aloud to feel free to show the children what they want to share with them.

Football Coach
Volunteers assist local sports trainers by providing basic training for football players (i.e. ball control, speed work,
technical skills and physical work). This is an excellent opportunity to learn about African football and local players.

Assist Rural Communities
This project is looking for enthusiastic volunteers who have some experience in working with children. It needs people to teach English, run drama/dance workshops, and raise awareness of HIV/AIDS, conservation issues and techniques.

Medical Professionals
Volunteers (doctors, nurses, midwifes and psychologists) are required to help care for people who are victims of natural disease, political repression and poverty.

Healthcare Professionals
Volunteers are required to transfer their expertise on HIV care and infectious diseases to colleagues Africa.
Positions are open now for physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician's assistants as well as non-medical
HIV/AIDS specialists.

Through establishing these contacts and relationships you can better learn from the people as they learn from you, and you can obtain feedback on your actions and understand what is temporary and what you hope to make last, knowing the happiness, challenge, and inspiration developed between you and the community.

Toilet Building
This project is looking for people who know how to buld toilets and kitchens in the villages. The village
has always had problems with toilets, especially in May when it's the raining season. We are looking for a volunteer who can teach the local people how to build strong toilets.

Afristudio Pangani
This project is looking for volunteers who have some experience in working with a home studio. Pangani has no place where you can learn music. Africulture made an Afristudio for the local people who have a desire to become and artist and they can go and lean how to create music. This project will be welcome to anyone who want to learn how to create computer music. Our goal is to provide a chance for young talented Tanzanians.

The Volunteers' Opportunites to Experience Africa
The volunteers find themselves in situations of great opportunity, both internally and externally. In Tanzania, one has easy access to world-renowned sights and activities, which can be arranged easily by experts within the Africulture organization. National parks, mountains, camping, hiking, cultural experiences, tropical paradises – everything is at your fingertips.

Home Stays
Home stays are also an option providing an opportunity to make new friends, meet new challenges, and gain new perspectives on life in Tanzania. Kikokwe Village will be A Class for Drumming and Dancing the name of Dance is collied Mkugo is a local music.  This is for volunteers who would like to learn African dance and how to make African food and will be a chance to learn how the people make there own Mad House in the Kikokwe Village.

You will find out that there are many people there who are not of the same tribe. Most of the Kikokwe people are from Tabora Mwanza. So this will be a chance to learn about the Sukuma Tribe as well with Local Mama.

It is Recommended

You should register at least 1-3 months before departure from your country in order to allow time for obtaining vaccinations and to buy a reasonably priced plane ticket.
